MONDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington. I hope you had a great weekend, Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration Day. A lot has happened since the last Port City Pulse newsletter from Friday:

TikTok is banned, TikTok will not be banned for 90 days, TikTok goes offline, TikTok goes back online!

Trump launches a meme coin. The value goes from 18¢ to $77 to $34 within a few days.

And now we’re looking at a whole new administration with a new agenda starting off with a slew of executive orders:

  • Immigration: Reversed Biden-era deportation priorities, making all undocumented individuals a priority for removal.

  • Border Emergency: Declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, sending troops and restricting asylum.

  • Drug Cartels: Designated drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

  • Birthright Citizenship: Signed an order targeting birthright citizenship, though its legal viability is unclear.

  • Refugee Program Suspension: Temporarily suspended the U.S. Refugee Admission Program for security review.

  • Remain in Mexico: Pledged to restart the policy forcing asylum seekers to wait in Mexico.

  • CBP One App: Ended the Biden-era CBP One app that facilitated legal migrant entry.

  • Capitol Riot Pardons: Pardoned or commuted sentences of all 1,500+ charged in the Jan. 6 riot.

  • WHO Withdrawal: Started the process of withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization.

  • Paris Climate Agreement: Withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement.

  • TikTok Ban Delay: Delayed the implementation of a TikTok ban while considering sale options.

  • Inflation Directive: Ordered federal agencies to combat consumer inflation.

  • Fossil Fuel Expansion: Repealed Biden regulations to ease oil and gas production.

  • Trade Tariffs: Announced plans to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

  • Offshore Wind Moratorium: Halted offshore wind lease sales and paused permits.

  • Energy Emergency: Declared a National Energy Emergency and pledged to expand drilling.

  • Transgender Rights Rollback: Defined gender as strictly male or female based on birth sex.

  • DEI Program Elimination: Ordered the termination of all federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

  • Federal Hiring Freeze: Halted most federal hiring, except for the military and unspecified areas.

  • Government Efficiency Office: Empowered Elon Musk to lead the unofficial Department of Government Efficiency.

  • Cuba Terror List: Reversed Biden’s decision to remove Cuba from the state sponsors of terrorism list.

  • Foreign Aid Suspension: Suspended all U.S. foreign assistance for 90 days pending policy reviews.

  • Lethal Injection Drug Access: Directed the attorney general to ensure states have lethal injection drugs.

  • Security Clearance Fast-Track: Allowed interim security clearances for some aides despite pending background checks.

  • Denali Name Change: Ordered the renaming of Denali back to Mount McKinley.

  • Gulf of Mexico Renaming: Proposed renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

  • Flags at Full Staff: Mandated flags remain at full staff on all future Inauguration Days.

Winter Storm Warning: Snow & Travel Issues Expected in Eastern NC

[NCWX] Eastern North Carolina is bracing for a significant winter storm, with snowfall totals increasing as models continue to show more moisture. Cold temperatures will ensure any snow sticks, leading to widespread travel issues. The storm will impact Central and Coastal NC, with conditions worsening tomorrow night and lasting into the weekend. While there’s no need to panic, residents should prepare for icy roads and disruptions.

A rare snowfall along the coastal areas is likely. Several inches of snow will likely be along parts of Eastern/Coastal NC, into the Outer Banks, and down south, too. This should be really cool to see for the beaches and Eastern NC, I am rooting for the snow lovers; it has been years.
