PCP Fri Dec 6: Delay Deny Defend

FRIDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

The details coming from the horrific UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting sound like they’re out of a movie. The masked assassin used a silencer and the words "deny," "depose" and "defend" were written on live rounds and casings left behind. These three words make up the title of a book written about why insurance companies don’t pay claims.

This updated Daily Mail article puts everything together–including updates, $10,000 reward, comparison to Assassin’s Creed character and public contention with the healthcare system.

Avelo Airlines Adds New Nonstop Flights

[Aveleo] Avelo Airlines continues to expand its offerings at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and Wilmington International Airport (ILM). In addition to new nonstop flights from RDU to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Avelo will launch three new domestic routes from ILM starting April 2024. Wilmington travelers can enjoy twice-weekly flights to Boston/Manchester (MHT), Rochester, NY (ROC), and Nashville, TN (BNA), providing convenient connections to the Northeast and Music City. Avelo's growth highlights its commitment to North Carolina travelers.

Power Struggle: N.C. Senate Passes Veto Override on SB 382

[NC Newsline] The N.C. Senate voted to override Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of SB 382, a bill shifting executive powers and tightening election rules while including some hurricane relief measures. Democrats criticized the bill as a "power grab," while Republicans called it necessary governance. The override now moves to the House, where unanimous Republican support is required. Protests in the Senate gallery disrupted debate, prompting its closure. Critics argue the bill undermines democracy and fails to deliver adequate hurricane aid.
