Federal PFAS Regulation Pulled, Leaving NC to Tackle Contamination Alone
[WECT] A Trump Administration decision has withdrawn a proposed rule that would have limited industrial PFAS discharges into waterways, shifting the burden of cleanup onto local and state governments. The move impacts Southeast North Carolina, where PFAS contamination has been a major concern due to years of chemical dumping into the Cape Fear River by Chemours and DuPont. Experts warn of the health risks tied to PFAS exposure, while advocates stress the need for urgent action. The NC Department of Environmental Quality is now reviewing the federal decision and working with policymakers to address contamination at the source.

Roy Williams & Verizon Erase $10M in Debt for WNC Storm Survivors
[WCNC] Legendary Tar Heels coach Roy Williams and Verizon are teaming up to erase $10 million in debt for 6,500 western North Carolina families affected by Hurricane Helene. Partnering with ForgiveCo, Verizon is relieving consumer debt with no action required from beneficiaries. Williams personally called some recipients, calling the initiative a reminder of resilience and community support. This effort builds on Verizon’s previous $400,000 donation to United Way after the storm.
