New Pilot Training Program Takes Off at Cape Fear Community College

[CFCC] Cape Fear Community College is launching a new Career Pilot Program to address the growing demand for aviation professionals. Starting this fall, students can take courses in aviation fundamentals and pilot instrument ground school. The program aims to prepare students, including high schoolers, for careers as commercial pilots and in other aviation roles. The initiative is part of a broader effort to meet industry shortages, with plans to expand course offerings in the future.

Wilmington Approves 184-Unit Affordable Housing Project on Kerr Avenue

[WWAY] Wilmington City Council has approved the development of Avenue Flats, a 184-unit affordable housing project on South Kerr Avenue. The council also allocated $3.15 million in gap financing for the project, which will serve residents earning 30% to 80% of the area median income. While the project is seen as a positive step towards addressing the city's affordable housing crisis, it’s acknowledged that more needs to be done. The council also approved a resolution to seek grants for the South 17th Street Multi-Use Path Project.
