NC Senate advances map plan that could give Republicans a 3-seat gain

[WRAL] With the November election drawing near, lawmakers in Raleigh have recently approved new redistricting maps for North Carolina's N.C. House, N.C. Senate, and Congressional districts. These maps, which have raised concerns among some citizens, are expected to secure a veto-proof majority for Republicans and favor them in 10 of the state's 14 Congressional Districts. Critics argue that the redistricting process exacerbates divisions and is unfair.

Monster Movies and Vampire Science at Bellamy Mansion

[WWAY] The Bellamy Mansion Museum in Downtown Wilmington has exciting Halloween activities planned for the upcoming week. On October 25th, from 5:30-6:30pm, the museum, in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) Anthropology Club, will host a lecture by UNCW Professor Michaela Howells. The lecture explores the cultural fascination with vampires and their place in societies worldwide. On October 27th and 28th, the museum will transform its lawn into a "monster movie madness" night from 6:30 to 10pm, featuring a "creature double feature" with four different movies. Guests are encouraged to come in costumes, bring chairs, and blankets. The event is free with a suggested donation of $5, and ghoulish goodies will be available for purchase. Don't forget to bring your garlic, crosses, and holy water, though they are not required for the talk.
