IN THIS ISSUE: Wrightsville Beach’s Blockade Runner is undergoing a rebranding
WEDNESDAY TOGETHER WITH YOU
Good morning Wilmington!
The tragedy of September 11 occurred 23 years ago. Considering that most children aren’t fully able to grasp the magnitude of such an event until around the age of 10 to 12, anyone under 33 today likely lacks a firsthand awareness of what life was like before that fateful day.
For many, the world of "before 9/11" is something known only through history books, stories, YouTube videos, and documentaries—not through the personal experience of watching the towers fall, alongside the rest of the world, for the first time.
That experience, however, pales in comparison to what those in New York and New Jersey endured, witnessing the horror unfold in person.
When we say, "9/11: Never forget," perhaps the most important task is to help those too young to remember understand what it was like to see those towers fall for the first time, and how the world changed in an instant.
I recently came across this evening newscast from September 10, 2001. It’s striking to see the concerns of New Yorkers the night before the world changed forever. Let us not forget.
