Taxpayer Uproar: Leland Residents Reject 17% Tax Hike

[WECT] The Leland Town Council initially proposed a 70% property tax rate increase but reduced it to 17% following a budget workshop on April 9. However, many residents find even this decrease unacceptable. Nearly 100 people gathered at Leland Town Hall to protest the proposed increase, demanding no tax hike and criticizing the council's decision-making. They argue for better fiscal management and utilization of existing resources rather than burdening taxpayers further. The council's disregard for public sentiment has fueled frustration, with residents vowing to voice their concerns at the upcoming town council meeting and urging accountability in budget decisions.

[WECT] A Surf City church will provide free dental services on May 3-4, courtesy of the NC Baptists on Mission dental bus. Services include cleanings, fillings, and extractions for local residents without dental insurance. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling (240) 506-1818.
