Wilmington Welcomes Daily Flights to Miami with American Airlines

[WWAY] American Airlines is ramping up its flights between Wilmington and Miami, introducing daily service starting June 5th. Previously, the airline offered Saturday-only flights from November to May. This move aims to meet the demand for convenient connections, making American Airlines the largest carrier at ILM, with eight nonstop destinations including Charlotte, Washington DC, and New York-LaGuardia.

Amid Criticism, NHCS Admins Under Fire for Handling of Career Readiness Academy Closure

[WECT] New Hanover County Schools' Superintendent Dr. Charles Foust reversed the decision to close the Career Readiness Academy at Mosley after public outcry. Concerns arose over the lack of transparency in the closure process, with some school board members expressing dismay at being kept unaware until shortly before parents were notified. Superintendent Foust cited plans to repurpose Mosley into a "Newcomer Center" for non-English speaking students, a move prompted by budget constraints. Despite assertions of ongoing discussions since 2021, board members felt blindsided by the sudden announcement. Foust emphasized the need for clearer communication in future decisions. However, this reversal highlights broader issues of transparency and fiscal challenges facing educational institutions.

Solar Industry and Advocates Challenge Duke Energy in Court Over Rate Adjustments

[WRAL] Renewable energy advocates are contesting Duke Energy's new rules in court, fearing higher bills for solar customers and decreased incentives for solar power. The North Carolina Court of Appeals heard arguments from nine environmental groups and activists, who argue that the state regulator's approval of Duke's pro-utility rules disregarded evidence of solar energy's financial and environmental benefits. These rules, slated to phase out net metering by 2027, allow Duke to pay solar customers varying rates, potentially reducing savings by 30%. Duke claims the changes level the playing field for non-solar customers but faces opposition from solar companies and environmentalists, who warn of economic and environmental repercussions.
