Have you heard about Hurricane Otis in Acapulco?

MONDAYS TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Wilmington!

I once heard a theory that WWIII would not be kinetic because everyone now holds a cell phone and would broadcast the horrors of war. As a result the world would reject war. I’m hopeful we are seeing this in the massive protests taking place in Spain, London, Turkey, Rome, Pakistan, Berlin, India, France and Indonesia. Many of these are pro-Palestine protests but I hope what’s really going on is they are rejecting war and averting WWIII.

Enjoy the weather today and tomorrow morning. It’s going to cool down throughout Halloween day and slowly warm back up as we approach the weekend.

Hurricane Otis Devastates Acapulco

This gets very little coverage but it pertains to us because we live on the coast where hurricanes are a great concern. On Tuesday October 22nd some Acapulco residents became aware that they may be affected by a tropical storm. Around 6PM Otis was upgraded to a hurricane and there residents heard that it might hit Acapulco. By around 10 PM that storm became a Category 4 Hurricane which ended up hitting the densely populated city of Acapulco that next morning between 1AM and 5PM as a Category 5 with 165 mph winds. the rapid buildup offered very little time to prepare. Keep in mind that we normally have 4-5 days to prepare of storms of this scale. Even residents that were in tune to the weather had less than 20 hours to prepare.

What does this mean for us? We need to be more in-tune to the weather when we hear about tropical storms that might affect our area (some great resources for this are Mike’s Weather Page and Windy.com). We have to be open to the possibility that we could have hours and not days to prepare for a sudden upgrade from tropical storm to a high-wind hurricane.
