Governor Roy Cooper led North Carolina's largest-ever delegation to the Southeast U.S./Japan Association (SEUS/Japan) meeting in Tokyo, where he met with key business and political leaders to strengthen the state's partnership with Japanese businesses. He discussed the thriving economic ties between the state and Japan with U.S. Ambassador Rahm Emanuel and engaged in fruitful talks with Toyota and Bridgestone executives. Toyota's forthcoming battery plant, with 2,100 jobs and a $5.9 billion investment, and Bridgestone's tire manufacturing operation in Wilson were focal points. The Governor also highlighted the presence of Japanese-owned companies like Hitachi, HondaJet, and FUJIFILM Diosynth in North Carolina. This meeting marked an important step in deepening the relationship between the Southeastern United States and Japan, with the 2024 SEUS/Japan Conference slated to take place in Charlotte, further bolstering economic ties between the regions.

The closure impacts the entire workforce of 107 employees. This marks one of 89 layoff notices filed in North Carolina this year, impacting over 7,700 workers, with a notable 4,200 workers affected by layoffs spread across 42 notices in 2022, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the workforce in the region.
