ILM Passenger Numbers Surge to 1.5 Million: What’s Next for Wilmington Airport?

[Star News] Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is booming, with a 58% increase in passengers expected this year, reaching over 1.5 million. This surge is fueled by more nonstop flights and an expanding parking lot. The airport plans a terminal expansion with three new gates and four bays, as well as major parking improvements including a new parking garage and long-term parking lot. Construction, estimated at $185 million, will be funded by state, federal sources, and airport reserves. Despite the growth, staffing remains minimal, with airlines like American, Delta, and United boosting services.
