Congrats to Nathan of Tame The Mane on its ninth anniversary! Nathan has two locations: one in Ogden and the other off of Masonboro Loop Road. Give them a call if you need a cut. Nathan is a treasure to this community!

  • Wilmington Prepares for 9/11 Commemorations

  • Free Swimming Classes for Adults

Wilmington Prepares for 9/11 Commemorations with Memorials, Walks

[WECT] Wilmington, NC will host several events to honor the 9/11 anniversary. Events include memorial services, walks, and remembrance ceremonies in Surf City, Burgaw, Oak Island, and more. Wilmington Fire Department, UNCW, and other local organizations will also pay tribute to the victims and first responders of 9/11 through various activities on Sept. 11.

  • Surf City will be hosting its 5th annual Bridge Walk starting at Soundside Park in Surf City. Meet at 8:15 a.m. and the walk starts at 8:46 a.m.

  • There will be a Patriot’s Day, 911 Memorial Service at the Burgaw Train Depot at 5:30 p.m.

  • VFW Post #10226 Oak Island will host the the Oak Island 9/11 Observance will be at 10 a.m. at EF Middleton Park.

  • The Southport Police Department will hold a brief ceremony starting at 9 a.m. The department will also have a new display of “reflection and remembrance” honoring the first responders who died including Police, Fire, & EMS. The display will be open until 4 p.m.

  • New Hanover Fire Rescue is hosting a ceremony and memorial at 6:15pm at Ogden Park Baseball Fields.

  • Wilmington Fire Department hosts their annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Wilmington Fallen Firefighters Memorial starting at 9:00am.

  • The Student Veterans Organization and the Office of Military Affairs at UNCW is hosting the 23rd Annual 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony at 8:30am at the Veterans Hall by the flagpole followed by brunch and learn at 10 am.

  • The Richard H. Stewart, Jr. St James American Legion Post 543 and the St James Fire Department is hosing a ceremony at St James Community Center at 10:00am.

  • John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 Leland and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12196 Leland and Auxiliary is hosting a commemoration from 9 am to 11 am at the Blossoms Restaurant Banquet Room.

Topsail Student Offers Free Swimming Classes for Adults

[WECT] Topsail High School student-athlete and Boy Scout Jack Cockrum is offering free swim lessons for adults aged 16 and up at Wilmington's Davis Community Pool from Sept. 26-29. The program aims to teach essential water safety skills like floating, treading water, and assisting others in danger. Cockrum hopes to inspire adults to feel more confident in the water and eventually swim in the ocean. These lessons are part of his Eagle Scout Service Project, and he's seeking volunteers to assist.

WED SEPT 11: 8: 30 AM @CFCC - ILM Cape Fear Community College will host a September 11, 2001 Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. The event will take place at the CFCC North Campus Safety Training Center, located at 4500 Blue Clay Road in Castle Hayne, NC.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

WED SEPT 11: 9:45-11:30 AM @ Surfside Beach Fishing Pier - SS
The Town of Surfside Beach and the Surfside Beach Fire Department would like to invite everyone to pay tribute to the public safety members who lost their lives on 9/11/2001. We will host our inaugural “9/11 Memorial Stair Climb” on September 11th, 2024, at 0945.
