Myrtle Beach, Wilmington: Top Choices for Americans Escaping City Life

[Travel & Leisure] Inflation and soaring home prices are pushing Americans out of major cities, with wages failing to keep pace. Many seek affordable housing and a better quality of life, driving a surge in relocation to places like Southern Appalachia.

A new survey by moving and storage company Pods found that many of the country's top 20 most popular destinations for relocation are focused in two states, South and North Carolina, with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina, tied for the first place.

Is That a Snake? Nope, Just a Legless Lizard in North Carolina

[The News and Observer] North Carolina is home to three kinds of legless lizards, often mistaken for snakes: the Eastern, slender, and mimic glass lizards. These lizards have tails that can break off to escape predators and regenerate. They live near bodies of water, especially in the coastal plain. Unlike snakes, glass lizards have ear openings, can blink, and can't unhinge their jaws. They pose no danger to people or pets and primarily eat insects and small vertebrates.
