Reminder: Give trick-or-treaters with blue pumpkin buckets a sensory-safe Halloween

his Halloween, let's remember the meaning of blue pumpkins and join hands to create a 'sensory-safe' trick-or-treat experience for children with autism and other sensory sensitivities. When you see trick-or-treaters carrying blue pumpkin candy buckets, know that they may need a little extra consideration. By dimming lights, reducing loud noises, and recognizing the blue pumpkin as a visual cue, we can ensure a more inclusive and enjoyable Halloween for everyone. This small act of kindness can make a world of difference and allow all children to have a memorable and happy Halloween.

Gov. Cooper issues environmental justice order

[NC NEWSLINE] North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has signed Executive Order 292, "Advancing Environmental Justice for North Carolina," to address environmental disparities in the state's marginalized communities.

What we're putting in place will be hard to stop. It will create a synergy that lasts beyond this administration

Gov. Roy Cooper

The order establishes a new Environmental Justice advisory council within the governor's office, expanding on the existing Environmental Justice & Equity Advisory Board. A new Environmental Justice Hub website will be created to provide a mapping tool that shows pollution sources, census data, health information, and sensitive community locations.

The order aims to tackle cumulative environmental impacts in historically disadvantaged communities, with a focus on transparency and trust-building.
