PCP THUR JUL 11: Big new cycle

IN THIS ISSUE: Largest Life Science Investment in NC | Cooper defines antisemitism with new law | To-go cocktails?

THURSDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

It seems that it’s recently been a big news cycle! As much news as there is, perhaps the biggest news is still from last week when the Supreme Court eliminated the Chevron Deference doctrine. Two obscure words that don’t seem to mean much but when put together they have likely had a great impact on our lives since the 80’s when the Chevron Deference doctrine was implemented. I don’t think I can do the term justice by trying explaining it–I am only beginning to understand it myself–but there are some thorough explanations and discussions out there on YouTube, Twitter and other platforms that are worth a search as this will likely affect multiple aspects of your life along with many types of industries.

Here’s today’s issue–

Largest Life Science Investment in NC: Novo Nordisk's New Facility

[Carolina Public Press] Novo Nordisk is investing $4.1 billion to expand its manufacturing operations in Clayton, NC, creating a 1.4 million-square-foot facility and 1,000 new jobs. This marks the largest life science investment in North Carolina's history. Despite recent controversy over drug prices, the facility aims to meet growing demands for treatments like Ozempic and Wegovy.

Gov. Cooper Signs Law Defining Antisemitism in NC

[WRAL] North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signed a law defining antisemitism based on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition. This new legislation aims to help law enforcement identify hate crimes more effectively. The bipartisan bill follows recent campus protests about the Israel-Hamas conflict, where some pro-Palestinian comments were seen as antisemitic. While the law supports free speech, opponents worry it may limit criticisms of Israel.

Gov. Cooper Approves To-Go Cocktails and Expanded ABC Store Hours

[WWAY] Governor Roy Cooper signed SB 527 into law, permitting to-go cocktails with food orders, provided the drinks are sealed. This pandemic-era practice aims to help restaurants. The law also allows ABC stores to open on New Year’s, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day.
