Sunset Beach’s Mazematician: Master of Sand Puzzles

[Spectrum 1] In Sunset Beach, N.C., a unique summer tradition emerges as "The Mazematician," Aaron Gutknecht, creates intricate mazes in the sand. Gutknecht, who has been drawing mazes on the beach since 2001, designs these puzzles on the spot, challenging beachgoers to navigate their twists and turns. Working against the tide, his mazes are a hit, bringing joy and intrigue to visitors who engage with his creations, free of technology and full of fun.

N.C. Secures $1.1 Billion for Affordable Apartments in 25 Counties

[NC Newsline] The N.C. Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) is set to develop $1.1 billion in affordable apartments across 25 counties, thanks to federal tax credits and financing awards. The initiative will create 4,211 affordable units, including options for families, seniors, and people with disabilities. This effort is part of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, a crucial tool in addressing the state's housing affordability crisis, where nearly half of renters are cost-burdened.

James A Walker Apartments, a 37-unit project in New Hanover County is one of the many projects in NC to receive funding.

UNC’s Ackland Museum Offers EnChroma Glasses for Color-Blind Visitors

[UNC Chapel Hill] UNC-Chapel Hill's Ackland Art Museum now offers EnChroma glasses for color-blind visitors, making it the first museum in North Carolina to provide this resource. These glasses enhance the color experience for those with red-green color blindness, allowing them to fully appreciate the museum's vibrant art. Visitors can reserve the glasses for free on the museum's website. Additionally, the museum has introduced an audio resource that guides listeners through the art galleries.
