Greenfield Grind Is Now the Alec Chambers Skate Park of Wilmington 🛹

WHQR Wilmington City Council voted unanimously this week to rename Greenfield Grind Skate Park in honor of Alec Chambers, a 32-year-old professional skateboarder and Wilmington local who died December 30, 2025. Chambers was struck by a vehicle near Satellite Bar & Lounge on South Front Street; he never recovered.

More than 6,800 people signed a petition calling for the renaming. To those who knew him, the reason was obvious — Chambers spent years at that park, both sharpening his own skills and mentoring younger skaters coming up behind him.

The park will officially be known as The Alec Chambers Skate Park of Wilmington.
