Senate Pushes Forward on Medical Marijuana and Hemp Legislation

[NC Newsline] The North Carolina Senate advanced an amendment to House Bill 563, integrating the Compassionate Care Act with hemp regulation. This move aims to regulate both hemp-derived and medical marijuana products. The amendment, prompted by potential federal changes, would permit medical marijuana for patients with specific conditions under physician guidance. The bill now proceeds to Senate Rules.

New Applied Science College Proposed at UNC-Chapel Hill

[WUNC] State House leaders propose creating a new College of Applied Science and Technology at UNC-Chapel Hill with $8 million in funding. The budget also includes raises for teachers and state employees, more funding for private school vouchers, and child care centers. House Speaker Tim Moore believes the new program won't compete with N.C. State's engineering school. Senate leader Phil Berger opposes the House's spending plan, leading to potential budget negotiation issues.
