IN THIS ISSUE: Duke Study: Probiotic could help with COVID

WEDNESDAYS WITH YOU
Good Morning Wilmington!
We’re looking at a normal weekend for this time of year with some clouds but little chance of rain. Cooler on Friday (58º/41º) and then warming up as the weekend progresses to the mid-sixties on Sunday.
Yesterday was an interesting day in politics and history really as the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump is disqualified from serving as president under the 14th Amendment. Shortly after, Vivek Ramaswamy pledges to withdraw from the Colorado GOP primary ballot until Trump is also allowed to be on the ballot and demands Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley do the same. Our very own Tom Tillis [R-NC] is expected to introduce a bill barring federal funds from states “misusing” the 14th Amendment.

Simple and Inexpensive: Duke Study Suggests Probiotics as a Viable Approach to Mitigate COVID Impact
[WRAL] A Duke study reveals that probiotics, specifically lactobacillus, show promise in delaying COVID infection and reducing symptoms among unvaccinated individuals exposed to a household COVID case. The randomized, placebo-controlled study enrolled 182 unvaccinated participants exposed to COVID. Those taking lactobacillus were 60% less likely to develop symptoms compared to the placebo group. While not statistically significant, the probiotic group had a lower COVID diagnosis rate. Probiotics may enhance immune function, making them a potential, cost-effective intervention post-exposure. Further research could establish their role in combating COVID and future pandemics.

Over $6 million allocated to port for rail improvements
[WECT] The Port of Wilmington is set to receive over $6 million for rail improvements as part of a $10.2 million investment by the N.C. Department of Transportation's Rail Division. The funds, provided through the Freight Rail & Rail Crossing Safety Improvement program, will be matched by several railroad companies. The North Carolina State Ports Authority and the state will contribute $2,780,890 each for new tracks at the port, while the state and Wilmington Terminal Railroad will each provide $590,846 for track upgrades to the Dock Lead at the port. This investment aims to enhance statewide freight rail infrastructure.
This is the best sermon you’ll hear this Sunday. Enjoy some @padraig_h wisdom.
