Good morning Wilmington!

Sadly, nearly 20 trees are set to be removed from Market Street in Wilmington starting today on Market Street between 17th and 21st streets. City officials say the trees are aging and pose a safety hazard for drivers and pedestrians.

According to the city, crews closures will begin at 7 a.m. with work concluding around 5 p.m. each day. Officials expect the work to take at least three days before crews will move to the section of Market Street between 16th Street and 12th Street.

The city plans to plant new trees in place of each tree that is cut down. Officials say that will happen during the tree planting season next winter.

Plan accordingly for street closures and detours.

Kirk Pugh Lands $1.7M Prize for 504-Pound Marlin at Big Rock

[WECT] Kirk Pugh of Wilmington caught a 504-pound marlin on the first day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City, winning the Fabulous Fisherman’s Division and earning $1.7 million. The event sees 302 boats competing, with 271 active on the first day, and runs until June 16.

Kevin Williamson's New Series 'The Waterfront' Set to Film in Wilmington

[NETFLIX Kevin Williamson, known for "Dawson's Creek" and "Scream," is bringing a new series, "The Waterfront," to Wilmington. The show, based on true events, centers on a North Carolina fishing family's struggles. It will be filmed at Cinespace Studio and is part of Williamson's four-series deal with Universal, which includes a "Rear Window" remake, "The It Girl," and "The Game." Williamson will also direct the seventh "Scream" film.
