1.6 million going to local beach projects

IN THIS ISSUE: Cape Fear River needs volunteers this Saturday

WEDNESDAYS WITH YOU

Good Morning Wilmington!

Environmentalists from Just Stop Oil smashed the glass protecting Rokeby Venus painting in a London gallery. I see this as important news. You as the audience may be appalled at the destruction of timeless pieces of art. Perhaps your thoughts are on the other side of the argument. They are making a great statement and this is the only way to get attention about such an important issue. Just think for a second the tragedy if you, as the audience felt either way and you didn’t even know that the attempt was made to destroy artwork. Wouldn’t that be the greatest tragedy–for all of that to happen and to not even know about it?

Municipality election results should be coming in soon if they haven’t already. Check your local stations: WECT, WWAY, Star News & WRAL for election results.

Don’t forget about the Red Cross Blood Drive taking place TODAY on the Battleship North Carolina!

WEEKEND WEATHER

We are looking at some nice temperate weather on Friday with a high of 78º and a low of 53º. We are likely to see cooler temps and rain on Satudday and Sunday. My Monday, things will clear up but it will be chilly–warming up as the week progresses. Of course all of this could change.

$1.6 million going to local beach projects

[WECT] The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management awarded the funding, including over $1.6 million for local projects via its Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access program.

Volunteers are needed from 9–11AM for a trash cleanup event this Saturday.

Cape Fear River Watch is excited to partner with Keep New Hanover Beautiful for our Second Saturday Cleanup on November 11th! The cleanup will take place in the GFL Watershed behind the Bojangles and Speedway on US 421 from 9:00am – 11:00am. We will be cleaning up the woods as well as the surrounding stormwater ditch and pond. You can park on Silverstream Lane. An address that will get you close is 735 Medical Center Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401. Just look for the CFRW signs! We will provide pickers, bags, gloves, and safety vests. As always, remember to dress appropriately and bring water. We hope to see you out there!

Governor Cooper Announces $1.677 Million in EV Career Pathway Funding

[PRESS RELEASE] North Carolina is set to participate in the EVeryone Charging Forward™ program, a 10-year, $30-million initiative launched by the Siemens Foundation. Governor Roy Cooper announced that the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) will receive $1.677 million to establish accessible career pathways in the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and charging sectors. The program aims to meet the surging demand for skilled EV workers, ensuring equitable access to jobs and promoting the decarbonization of the U.S. economy. NCBCE will collaborate with industry leaders, community colleges, and high schools to develop training and apprenticeship programs, with a focus on underserved communities. Additionally, the Siemens Foundation is partnering with national organizations to create a more inclusive EV charging workforce. North Carolina's commitment to a clean energy future and its leadership in the EV sector make it a natural partner in this initiative.
